Kingsville Cross Country Headed to State!

This past Saturday Cross Country Districts were held in Kansas City at Swope Park. The boys hustled to the line and made it with about 3 minutes to spare till the start. Seconds before the gun went off, Kingsville fans and cheerleaders could be heard all over chanting, "Kingsville, Kingsville, Kingsville." The gun was shot and all that we noticed was the brilliant red of our very own Kingsville Tigers leading the pack. Michael Hodson set his own PR that day, running a 18:03.31 and came in 3rd. Steven Holbrook ran an impressive race setting a school record with his time of 17:24.89 and also made history as the first Kingsville runner to finish FIRST in a District race.

There was definitely excitement in the hearts of the Kingsville fans and students as the Lady Tigers headed over to the starting line. Their stomachs were filled with butterfly's, and I'm sure more than one felt the urge to fake dead as the official raised the gun and fired. Leading the pack and coming in 2nd and 3rd were Kelsey and Kaylee Herring, freshman and senior sisters who work together to push one another throughout the race. Next for the Lady Tigers was senior Courtney Welch coming in 12th place, soon followed by Lauren Thomas who came in 15th. Megan Graham soon followed in 19th and Charlee Hodson finished in 25th. The Lady Tigers team came in second over all falling short to Cass Midway by 18 points. Taking second allows the lady tigers to run as a team in the State meet November 5th in Jefferson City, along with our two qualifying boys.

Tiger Men Basketball

Our Tiger Men will go into the Holidays with a 1- 5 record, having defeated Wentworth in the Conference Tournament last week at Leeton. Having battled many larger schools and much larger opponents our Tiger Men will be ready to go in January when we begin the New Year with a January 3rd game located in Ballard. Hard work and dedication will make this team great and we hope you'll join us to support our Tiger Men for the rest of the season!

Lady Tiger Basketball
Our Lady Tigers have started off the basketball season with an awesome record of 5-2, losing only to Leeton and Archie. The loss to Leeon was disheartening, but the Lady Tigers pulled through to beat Chillhoween afterward to take third place in the confrence tournament. The Leeton bulldogs went on to lose to the Lutheran Knights who took first place in the tournament. The following week the Lady Tigers played Archie, a much bigger school, who played rough basketball, the Lady Tigers lost 29-53, their lowest scoring game of the year. On Friday, fans were nervous as they entered the gym, after the loss on tuesday how would the ladies come back to beat another bigger school? The Lady Tigers replied with a heart-stopping game, finishing with a score of s-s. The Lady Tigers would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and hope that you will continue to show your support by attending the games next year!

Kingsville Cross Country at State-Nov. 5th

Early in the morning on November 5, before daylight had even broke, the Cross Country team left their hotel for the Oak Hills Golf Course in Jefferson City. They were only a few minutes away, but decided to get to the State Meet with plenty of time to spare. At about 8:45 a.m. the Cross Country boys, Michael Hodson and Steven Holbrook, headed to the starting line along with 165 other runners. Fifteen minutes later, the starting gun fired and they were off! A herd of runners raced for the finish while hundreds of excited supporters cheered them on. After 3.1 miles of gruesome racing, Steven Holbrook finished 11th, making him an all-state runner, and Michael Hodson finished 33rd.The story was similar for the Cross Country girls. At about 9:45 a.m. all six of them headed to the starting line. Four of them- Kaylee Herring, Lauren Thomas, Charlee Hodson and Courtney Welch-being Seniors, knew this would be their last high school cross country meet. The ladies faced frigid cold weather, and gnarly hills that would be a skier's dream. Kelsey Herring finished 23rd, making all-state her freshman year. Kaylee Herring finished 45th, Courtney Welch came in 66th, Lauren Thomas followed in 92nd, Megan Graham finished 128th and Charlee Hodson finished 155th of the 161 runners.

The lady tigers fought hard the whole game, but when they walked into the locker room at the half Crest Ridge was in the lead. By the end of the third quarter the Lady Tigers had pulled back into the lead and weren't about to give it up.
