Kingsville R-I Receives Grant

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Office of Special Education recently extended an invitation for public school districts to apply for competitive Special Education Improvement Grants.  A total of 169 applications were submitted for elementary achievement and post secondary transition totaling over $3,000,000.00. Those grant applications have been scored and ranked by reviewers.  Seventy-six elementary achievement and 49 post secondary transition grants totaling approximately $2,000,000.00 have been awarded.

Jennifer Carr and Deanna Jurkowski developed and applied for both of the competitive grants totaling $30,000.  They have recently been informed that they have been awarded both of these grants.  The grants will focus on developing instructional strategies in the co-teaching classes for special education, RTI (response to intervention), differentiated instruction professional development, and reading in the content area.  This is a one year opportunity that will begin May 1, 2012 and end April 30, 2013.
